📖 Matthew 4:18–22 | Psalm 27

What do we trust when life feels uncertain?

In this sermon, we look closely at the moment Jesus calls the first disciples—and they leave their nets behind. At first glance, it can sound like a dramatic call to sacrifice everything. But what if this story is less about giving things up and more about learning who (and what) we trust?

Using a personal fishing story, the biblical text, Psalm 27, and the life of Clarence Jordan, this message explores a simple but searching question:

The question isn’t what we use.

It’s what we trust.

Nets are not evil. Tools are not the enemy.

But when money, control, busyness, or certainty are asked to carry the full weight of our lives, they eventually fail us—or harden us—or burn us out.

This sermon invites us to consider:

• What are we asking our “nets” to carry?

• Where do we take our fear?

• What kind of refuge does God actually offer?

Whether you’re watching as part of our church community or joining us online for the first time, we’re glad you’re here.
